The First Interdisciplinary Forum was held in Lanzhou University on Jul 27, 2020. Professor Chunhua Yan, principal of Lanzhou University and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), and Prof. Can Li, chairman of Advanced Catalysis Center in Lanzhou University and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) attended the forum and gave the opening speech. Heads of relevant schools and research institutes, academic backbones and interested teachers and students participated in the forum. The opening ceremony was hosted by Prof. Pengfei Xu, assistant to the principal and executive dean of Institute of Science and Technology Development.

Academician Chunhua Yan intended that interdisciplinarity was an important representation of the current development of science and technology. As researchers and young students, we should take interdisciplinarity as a natural, habitual behavior in our work and learning. By holding interdisciplinary forums, a strong culture of innovation can be created to stimulate cooperation between teams of different disciplines. As a result, we can produce significant original achievements, improve original innovation ability and core technology tackling ability in key fields, and effectively promote the "Double Tops" construction of the university.

Academician Can Li said that the interdisciplinary forum is an effective way to organize high-level scientific research and condense out major innovative achievements. The interdisciplinary forum could stimulate new ideas and spark a good academic environment for scientific and technological innovation. Therefore it would provide important support for high-level scientific and technological innovation and high-quality talent training.

Prof. Pengfei Xu introduced background of setting up interdisciplinary forum. This forum aimed to explore changes in the chemistry, material, nuclear science, physics, biology, mechanics, environmental development and their interdisciplinarity. It was organized altogether by the Development of Science and Technology Research Institute, Rare Isotope Frontier Science Center, State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Physical Science and Technology, School of Nuclear Science and Technology, School of Life Science, College of Earth and Environment Sciences, College of Civil Engineering and Mechanics. Academician Chunhua Yan, Can Li and Yongqiang Tu are invited as the chairperson of this forum.

The forum invited nine scholars from related disciplines to give academic reports on the theme of the forum. Experts, scholars, teachers and students were very interested in the meeting and had a lively discussion with an active atmosphere.
