To deeply implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important statements on science popularization and the cultivation of scientific literacy, and further enhance Lanzhou University's ability to serve society in the field of chemistry, a unique, lively, and informative "Bringing Science and Technology to Campus" event was held at Weinan Central School in Tianshui from May 11th to 12th. 

With the support of the university's Party Committee, this event was meticulously organized by the Experimental Teaching Center of Chemistry. A total of 43 faculty members and students from the Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, General Chemistry Center, and Administrative departments, as well as the Inorganic Graduate Student Party Branch, actively participated. They delivered two fascinating science popularization lectures and conducted six interesting science experiments for 601 students at Weinan School in Tianshui. 

During the event, Associate Professor Yuancheng Shan and Professor Fengjuan Chen delivered popular science lectures on "Organic Chemistry in Daily Life" and "The Versatility of Water," respectively. They not only explained the mysteries of organic chemistry and water to the primary school students but also inspired them with the power of role models to nurture scientific dreams, foster innovative aspirations, and contribute to scientific progress. 

The Experimental Center meticulously crafted unique postcards with the distinctive features of Lanzhou University for this event. They demonstrated and guided the students in hands-on experiments such as the magical purple cabbage, milk rainbow, tea water-ink transformation, elephant toothpaste, fruit battery, and color-changing shaker. Each student who participated in the event and completed one science experiment could receive a corresponding stamp on their postcard. Children who completed all six experiments and collected all the stamps would be awarded a postcard as a symbol of their "small achievements" .

"The science popularization activities have broadened the students' horizons. It is a process of exploration and application of knowledge for the children, as well as a process of intellectual development," said the principal of TianShui WeiNan Central School. He further mentioned that these face-to-face, diverse and content-rich science popularization activities not only allowed the students to experience the "charm" of chemistry in an immersive environment but also enhanced their innovation awareness and practical abilities.

The science popularization activities have created a favorable atmosphere for students' scientific education and greatly ignited their passion for science and learning. The college will continue to promote the distinctive features of chemistry at Lanzhou University and leverage the advantages of the University Chemistry Experiment Teaching Center. They will continuously bring high-quality science popularization resources to primary schools, ensuring that the seeds of science and technology literacy are deeply planted in the hearts of children.
