Biochemical and genetic basis of higher fungal natural product biosynthesis

Research in our lab focuses on elucidating the biosynthetic pathway of important natural products especially for diterpenoids and meroterpenoids from higher fungi and identifying the key enzymes involved in its biosynthetic pathway. After understanding the biochemical and genetic basis for these natural products biosynthesis, then we use this information to improve the production and to develop novel therapeutically relevant compounds.

Expanding the chemical diversity of natural products by combination chemical synthesis and biosynthesis

Natural products and their derivatives have played a prominent role in the history of drug discovery and remain the most attractive source of potential drugs because of their structural complexity and diversity. However, construction of complex natural products and the development of large collections of biologically relevant molecules present significant challenges to synthetic chemists. To do this, we developed a strategy combined biosynthesis and chemical synthesis to expanding the chemical diversity of natural products.
